Should high athletes get paid to play sports?
I am writing an essay and i need some other opinions on this question. So i want to know what you think and why or why not?

No, they shouldn't, because our schools are already struggling with money and they need to be building character with their sports rather than focusing on money.
Reply:if your talking about high school athletes than no. but high schools do recruit and dont admit it. i went to a school in michigan called nouvel catholic central and they recruited and i even heard that they did pay some athletes to not go to the nearest public school and lplay ball for them. should they get paid, no, do they, yes. the reason is that (in my opinion) i think if you are going to get paid to play, you should first have a high school education. some athletes are as dumb as rocks who should not have fat checks and loads of money because of the way it will be used. second responsability is a reason that they (the experts) think that a young person will blow there earnings and make dumb mistakes

The United States House voted last week to require Americans to show proof of citizenship in order to vote.
Democrats state the legislation would disenfranchise minorities, the poor and the elderly – who might have difficulty producing identification.
My own common sense question is "How do people without ID cash a check or show they are old enough to buy cigarettes or a lottery ticket(both require you be over 18) ?"
They can't live in a vacuum or they won't want to vote.
I can't even write a check at the store without showing proof of who I am . I can't walk into a branch office of my own bank to cash a check without showing ID. You go into a Rentway or Circuit City to finance anything they want ID.
I'm not wealthy so I can sympathize but asking for ID seems a small price to pay for the right to vote.

This is just good sense. It is reasonable, and the founding fathers would have supported it. Previously, you voted in districts where people knew you. You were identified...even if it wasn't w/ a badge.

When you register to vote you are sent a voter registration card which you are supposed to take to the polls with you. I live in a small town and the poll workers know who I am so I have never had to show mine, but if someone new were to start doing it who did not know me I would expect them to verify my identity, or anyone could come in and vote using my name.

What is your opinion of an 18 year old moving out on their own?
She will be in College too, and we live close enough for her to live home.....but she wants to move into either the dorm or into a rental house with two other girls. Is she old enough for this? I've told her that if she does that, she will have to pay for it herself because she could live at home and it isn't a necessity....

18 is when a youngster gets their independence don't try to hold her back . Just be there to help is she falls. Moms hate to see their kids grow up and leave the nest but they do and we can't keep them from flying no more than a mother bird can keep her baby birds from flying. You wont lose her just because she want to adventure out on her own. Support her wishes and then their wont be any reason for her to rebel aganist you.

I pay my own way to college because me and my parents made too much last year for me to qualify for any serious financial aide. I go to community college, pay my own bills, and am my own boss. I don't party or do anything crazy so I mean it all has to do with is she ready for responsibilties and can she handle them?
Reply:I left home at 17 and never went back. I paid for %26amp; finished college on my own too. Try not to fight her on this one as just because she wants to live on her own it doesn't mean she is rejecting you. And if you can afford to help her out with rent, then do so - but don't make it a threat. You are entering a period of time when an adolescent really wants and needs to be independent but still wants and needs parental protection and guidance. Try not to let your fears color your decision making. Parenting is a life long job.

I called her a couple of time wondering how to do this or that... and everything was fine. I even grew closer to my family, cause I could see them whenever I wanted without feeling like I had to see them all the time. Making her pay for herself, tho, is OK. Its her choice, she has to assume the responsabilities. And if she finds it too hard, she'll be back in no time :D

it's necessary. as currently set up, the burden is on middle income families, while corporations and high income individuals pay little or no taxes due to writeoffs, abatements, incentives etc.having such, the greatest burden for all services is not where the money is concentrated, but where it is most easily taken from. there are those who say business and the wealthy will invest and create jobs, but while they do just that, their return on their investment is far out of proportiopn to what they invest. an investmentr of $1 returns $3 in profits. and the tax burden is less than either.

What is your opinion on teenagers' driving?
I don't think that they should be allowed on the road. I'm 16, so, while driving, I have to deal with their poor driving habits on a regular basis around the school and in the school parking lot. (I'm almost rear-ended by by another teenager who is speeding, and doesn't see that I am following the speed limit 3 times a day on average) I would gladly hand in my license if teenage licenses were revoked. Too many of them pay too little attention.

its just dumb asses that think they can do anything and nothing will happen, 3 years ago at my high school someone in my class got in to an accident he was the passenger the car he was in was racing and the driver of that car was caught speeding 5 times but still had his license because his dad was a lawyer, the kid from my class died. me i use to speed a lot 100mph+ but i knew my limits 110 then i couldnt control it because the stearing was so sensitive (i only did this when traffic was clear there was like 5 cars on the road)
the thing is that licenses are to easy to get every dumb *** has it they need to make licenses harder to get
for a gun licenses it is hard to get, but for 4,000lbs of medal speeding down the parkway at 100mph the license is easy to get??? WHY!!!

For those under 21, even a single incident of reckless driving should result in a suspension. That way the reckless drivers will either reform their ways or lose their licenses, and the safe drivers will be able to get around.
Reply:I don't think you should get your full license until 18, and should start learning at 16, but only when accompanied by an experienced driver, someone who's at least 25 and has been driving for at least 3 years. Teenagers have been proven to be less attentive on the road, it's not really their fault, it's just the way it is.

Reply:Have to agree but I think it should be mandatory for everyone to pass a driving class to get a license. There are just t omany stupid people on the road.

Older ugly used car (paid off) VS a new one with car payment! Which one wld u buy?
Hi guys..
I am planning on buying my very first car. I just need your opinion and/or advice on what I should do. I have found a used 91 Toyota Corolla, reliable but ugly- needs shocks, paint job, exhaust, fix AC and grill. Its only $500. Should I go ahead and buy it, and fix it up OR just go to a dealership for a newer and nicer car and just pay the monthly payment?
What would you do? Thanks!

I would go with door number three.. buy a newer used car that doesn't need work. one that you can keep for 2-6yrs and then when you're a bit older and can afford the insurance and the payments.. get a new car
Reply:I would buy the fixer upper cause in the long run u will probably pay less fixing whats wrong ..then paying a payment with high intrest....

Check the expenses of the necessary repairs and make sure you can commit to a little extra maintenance to keep an older car in good shape. Otherwise it turns into a money pit.
If you can afford to and have the time to work on it or get it regularly serviced, go with the cheaper ride.
Reply:Its really in your hands. While the $500 car may be tempting, it may be a junker that lasts until its off the lot. I personally would look for something at a dealership with around 15-40k miles on it. You will pay more for it, but you will have a warranty on it and its certified used.

Reply:Depends on your budget, personally I wouldn't buy anything under $2500 because it will probably end up dying on you anyway. If you are really set on buying the Corolla, have a mechanic check it out properly, since it's a 91', it may need a ton of other stuff - timing belts, water pump, brake pads, rotors, spark plugs ... and so on. Try to avoid a dealership too, they will screw you.
Reply:Why would you buy a used car that needs fixed up? Why not buy one that's more up to date. A much smaller loan that could be paid off quickly.
Personally I prefer to lease. More car for the buck that way.

Reply:It really depends on your finances, do you want to make a payment every month and have a good reliable car with little or no problems, just regular maintenance, or do you want o buy a $500 car and spend maybe another $1500 fixing it up and hoping it will last a while without any more major issues and have no payments, what type of job do you have, what sort of driving will you be doing daily, etc. There's lots to consider and it depends on your personal situation.

A: have debt that you pay minumums on small monthly payments
B: don't have a secure job
C: can't truley afford it
THEN get the used one. don't make the mistake most americans make with their money.
