What is your opinion on the socialist status of the UK? do you think it should be maintained or what?

I have heard about people complaining about the high taxes and so forth to pay for people to live for free in "tenement houses"?....and to pay for free healthcare.

do you think that this is a bad idea or not?

and why so?

do you agree more with the way the US is and just let everybody go to eat each other again like animals?

why and how so?

Thanks for your answers!

What is your opinion on the socialist status of the UK? do you think it should be maintained or what?
????? it is a long time since the UK was socialist, thanks to New Labour from 1997.
Reply:There is a weird socialism evident in the uk - labour mp's- They believe in a nanny state and a few elites - about 5%(or more like 2%) of the population and it's wealth- governing and controlling the masses. This encourages monopolies- (macdonalds, unilever, coca cola etc,Tescos)- think the way the uk government is lenient on tax havens and taxes the poor in comparison and actively encourages people to go on benefits but does not encourage small businesses or the workers. They want to control the ideology, the masses and the money!

Gordon Brown is a hideous freak!! and the labour party elite!!!
Reply:The socialist status of this country is the laughing stock of the whole world under this cretin of a prime minister 'clown Gordon Brown!
Reply:You have been listening to the Micheal Savage show on the radio too much. I have heard a lot of Brits complaining about the tax on the air they breath and mollycoddling Islamo-Fascist "KooKs"...So the wacky Muslims can blow up their whole country because of their wacko Islamic warped ideas about"How the world should be!"

As far as the U.S. and eating each other.....I guess I will pick Jennifer Love Hewitt if she is on the menu?
Reply:Socialism died with Thatcher.

Now Thatcher rules by another name...New Labour.

Do teachers (secretly) want to be paid for writing letters of recommendation?

I asked my college professors for letters, and they said they would write them. Within a couple of weeks, they said the letters were ready. Months later, however, they still haven't been sent (I know this 'cause I can check the status of my application on the schools' websites). What's up with that?

- I provided everything for them (stamps, self-addressed envelope, forms, etc.).

- I gave them plenty of time to write the letters.

- I received A's in their classes and have done extracurricular activities with them (research, tutored their students, gave presentations).

Whenever I try reaching them via email or phone, they don't respond.

I'm driving to school tomorrow to talk to them (again). As an added gesture, my dad suggested that I give them each a thank-you card with a check for $50 as a "sign of appreciation." He said that sometimes teachers need that extra "boost."

In my opinion, that sounds wrong, but I don't know what else to do. What do you think? Money or no money?

Do teachers (secretly) want to be paid for writing letters of recommendation?
No. Don't do it. It is unethical, because even though your reasoning for giving money is to give them a "boost" to write them already, it can come across as if you paid off teachers to give you a good reference. On top of it, they may even report your actions. Wait until you get the letters and then maybe send a nice card - avoid expensive gifts or cash. The best thing is to send a card and then get them a gift at Christmas a few months later in appreciation.

And if they are taking too long, just contact them and let them know that the deadline is approaching - and ask if you could do anything to make it easier (ie. speak with them or come pick up the letter directly). Some might not know what to write and might even want you to help a bit (not to write it for them, but they might not know everything about you).

Good luck with your applications.
Reply:Just talk to them personally. Set an appointment. They may be too busy. If you personally follow up on your request, they may just do it right there and then.
Reply:I don't think it's a good idea to pay a teacher to write your letter. I've never heard of that and if a teacher ever wanted me to do that, I'd ask someone else. It seems unethical.
Reply:As a college professor, it would be very unprofessional to accept money to write a letter of recommendation. Also, I do NOT expect to paid, secretly or otherwise!

Are you absolutely sure the letters weren't sent? How do you know that the school(s) to which they weren't sent aren't up-to-date? Perhaps it is something on their end. Did you try to call those schools to see if they had been sent?

I know we have a few absent-minded professors in my department, but I can't imagine any of them putting off a letter of recommendation for a couple of months.

Bottom line: do NOT offer them money to write the letters!
Reply:Terrible idea. It may just backfire on you with the prof writing that you are of a questionable ethics background.
Reply:I would not send them money. It seems very inappropriate. Sending letters of recommendation are all a part of their jobs. I would speak to the advisor and ask if they can contact them for you.
Reply:I have never heard of teachers being paid for letters of recommendation. I do understand how some teachers sort of put off writing them, as some teachers get asked to do dozens of them. If they told you they would write the letters, you are certainly within your rights to ask them about the letters and to ask if they could please send them as soon as possible. My vote is for no money, and I may be naive about it, but I always thought that this particular service was one of the expectations of the job of being a professor.
Reply:Well go talk to them, if they still dont do it, then go talk to your principal, or head advisor.
Reply:I think if your teachers need bribes in order to do what you asked them to do, you should get new teachers to write your letters of recommendation. Who knows what kind of lazy effort they put together before you offered to pay?

Just go talk to them. It does seem a little suspicious that they're not returning your calls, but they could be very busy, or it's possible that they sent them out and have no more idea than you what the post office or admissions department did with them. Again, if you're not happy with the response you get, try to find some other people to ask.

One thing to note: after they do get your letters out, it's customary to give some small token of appreciation. It's not expected, though, and it's usually supposed to be more personal than cash.

How can I get involved in product testing for baby and/or childrens products?

Every time I have bought a baby/toddler product whether it be shampoo or a bouncer or a bib, I always share my opinions with the company. Sometimes I find a truly great product that I just couldn't do without and I praise the company, but most of the time, I find design flaws or things that could use improvement, and I definately share my opinion then. Either way, since I already have to buy these products as I have two toddlers and a baby on the way, it would only make sense that I work testing these products and either get paid for my opinion or given the items for free in exchange for my opinion. Has anyone else done product testing for these types of items? Did you get paid for it, either in cash or goods, and how did you get involved in it?

How can I get involved in product testing for baby and/or childrens products?
I was able to get into the panel of Pinecone Research http://www2.pineconeresearch.com/ when they were looking for respondents for surveys targeting moms with 0-12 months old babies. I was given surveys to answer online. I also got the chance to test and evaluate various baby and children's products sent to my home, whereby a week l will answer a survey pertaining to the product.

The pay is only $5 per survey, but it was the fun of it learning about new products from big companies

However, it is not easy to get into the panel of Pinecone. I think I responded to a call for respondents from a baby magazine (possibly Parenting magazine). I occasionally see Pinecone also using banner advertising in some websites though I am not sure if they are still advertising and where they are advertising.
Reply:I think you are doing a great thing. Keep it up! Jennifer

What is your opinion on hunting with hounds?

I live in Oregon and they outlawed the use of hounds to hunt bear and mountain lion but we can still hunt coon and bobcat. Now we are overrun with mountain lions and bears so the government pays people to kill problem lions and bears. The "agents" of the state use dogs. If you are against hunting with hounds explain why? Are you against all hunting? Do you eat meat?

What is your opinion on hunting with hounds?
I'm all for hunting. It is a lifestyle that many MANY people these days don't understand. Hunting is NOT cruel. I think it was wrong of the state agents to outlaw the use of hunting with dogs for bear and cougar. It seems to me that they are putting animals on a higher pedistal than they are humans. Animal cruelty is very wrong too, and killing for kicks isn't right either. But Bear and Cougar are dangerous animals, that have been known to attack pets, children, and even adults. They need to be controlled. The best way for humans to control them is hunting them with the use of dogs. Until the "agents" allow hunting of those animals back to numbers within habitable limits, you will continue to have "problem" bears and cougars.
Reply:California made the same mistake ,they changed the law back in just a couple years.I hope they do the same in Oregon. Good luck hunting. Report Abuse

Reply:I hunt and support all types of legal and ethical hunting.
Reply:Hunting with hounds is for people who are too lazy to do the work of tracking the animal themselves. It's bordering on shooting animals in cages--not as bad but getting there.

While we are on the meat question, what has hunting mountain lions and bobcats got to do with meat? Do you eat them? Of course not! This isn't a question of providing a days meal, it's about enjoying the killing of something that hasn't come into your yard to annoy you, has no thought of pursuing you until you show up on his doorstep, and is pretty much going around minding it's own business. Justify that will you!

Also, do you know why they have government agents going around killing "problem" bears and lions? It's because humans "manage" the animals (deer, elk, antelope) lions, etc. prey on, for their own pleasure and then further "manage" the animals by killing the lions, etc. who would ordinarally kill these animals for food. It's because people love to build homes, businesses, and hotels in the area that was formerly the animals territory and then have the nerve to whine when the animals show up in their own homes. It's because humans raise animals that look to the lion just like prey and the lion is expected to know the difference. This is what "overrun" means. It doesn't mean that there are too many lions, bears, or bobcats. It means that humans don't want any competition for the same territory, food sorce, or entertainment venues, and humans are willing to kill anything that gets in their way.

I know plenty of hunters and, although I wouldn't hunt myself, I have little or no problem with their hunting passtime. It's their self-deception about the motivation and existence of animals in the real world (nature) that gets me.
Reply:LOL. I new just by reading your question you were going to get junk hate mail like that. you know how often I get that crap! WHY do they even look in the category in the first place, to fuel there fire! AND why are you asking a question like "DUH WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HUNTING!" what kind of answer do you expect and for the love of god who CARES! I don't need some tree hugger opinion on why they think hunting is sooo bad! do you know were the word vegetarian derived from? it's a native Indian word for BAD HUNTER!
Reply:you shouldnt hunt at all. Killing animals just for a hobby is abuse!
Reply:bad because the other animals can hear them.
Reply:i would have to say if it's a necessity, like getting rid of nuisance animals, then i'm ok with it...but to me, it just doesn't seem very sporting to let the dogs hunt and then ride up on a 4 wheeler or a horse and shoot a bayed animal...racoons and bobcats are different though because they climb trees better than bears and cougars
Reply:HAHAHA!!! hunting is CRUEL AND MEAN!!!!!!! yes i am against ALL HUNTING!!!!!! and sometimes it is cruel to the animals!!!!!!
Reply:Hey all you anti hunters out there you suck! if it wasn't for hunting you would not be alive because your ancestors survived on hunting.if you get beef in the store how they kill the cow is they hang the cow by the two back feet while it's still alive slit the cows neck and the cows alive while the heart pumps all the blood out of the cow through the neck. tell me a quick and clean kill with a gun in not cruel!
Reply:I'm all for the use of hunting with hounds. Especially when it concerns animals like cougar and bear. While hunting either of these animals, it is easy to become the hunted instead. They are predators. I have been stalked by Mt lions. while out hiking and even called in a Mt lion while calling coyotes. Made my hair stand on end.

Using hounds will put more pressure on the target animal, and instead of them hunting you they will be pursued and end result being treed.

I would prefer that hounds be used against cougar and bear as opposed to coons and bobcats. More people eat those two than they would a coon or bobcat. Coon and bobcats are good for their hides. Mt lion and bear the meat!! :)
Reply:hunting with dogs is cheting and if you dont whant to go get your own kill, dont hunt at all...

What's your opinion of a man who bails out on pregnant girlfriend and his unborn baby?

He is trying to get out of paying child support. His family condones his behavior of a 22 year old man. I asked the father of the baby for some financial help with my copays and he hasn't given me penny and thinks prenatal meds are a waste. I was told I never could get pregnant due to my personal health issues.

What's your opinion of a man who bails out on pregnant girlfriend and his unborn baby?
When the baby is bron go to child support office and file against him. You want to know what I think of men like this? Well, let me tell you----- they are nothing but losers that do not deserve to have children. If he does not want anything to do with this child then child support can help you get his parental rights taken from him. If he isn't going to be in this babies life anyway, then I say, Do not give him the priviledge of being anything but a sperm donor. Good Luck. You can do this without this man. As far as his family, the Apple Never Falls Far From The Tree.
Reply:make sure you hold on to any and all of your receipts. Any copays, medicine, formula, ect that is for your child. That way when u do go to court, which u should, u have proof of everything u have paid for that child.
Reply:he's scared, unresponsible and won't face up to his child
Reply:he is a major piece of s**t
Reply:I think it's a good thing that some states require men to pay for prenatal care too. I suggest you contact your local welfare office to find out if that is possible.

I think the man is a total ***- but if he was under the impression you could not get pregnant he could just be very put off by the whole situation. I would want to see how he behaves once he sees the child and starts paying support.
Reply:My opinion is that he needs to be shot, hung up and have his balls cut off..lol

But, now that I have that out of my system, take that jerk to court and have the judge deal with him.
Reply:In my opinion, he may be 22 years old but is not a man. If he will not step up, your only recourse is to get proof and go to court.
Reply:you don't need that kind of man.. and your baby certainly doesn't need that kind of father.
Reply:Personally, he's not a man you would want around your child. So good riddance! He's not worthy of such a beautiful gift!
Reply:Prenatal meds are vital for a healthy baby. Contact a lawyer, or social services, since it appears you're tight on money. You can't get pregnant on your own and you shouldn't have to pay for it alone! Good luck to you. Whatever you do, don't back down, that's what the coward wants!
Reply:Not much. Make sure you file for support as soon as the baby is born.
Reply:I think he's not a man. A real man would never leave the mother of his child in her time of need.
Reply:Like someone else said he is not man. All of that because he didn't want to pay child support!SMH I will pray for you ansd your baby.
Reply:you're better off without him. love your baby and forget about him. trying to get money out of him will be a heartache for you forever unless you just let him go.
Reply:He's a piece of trash. He should be sticking with you and the baby not ditching you two. But hell if he's like that you two are way better off without him. Just forget his ***..........his loss.

Im sorry but that aint a man. Thats a coward who cant face the fact that he got a girl pregnant.

Take his sorry butt to court and then move on without im and raise the baby. He may be 22 but mentaly he's 5.
Reply:I hate to tell you, but he doesn't owe you a dime until the baby is proven to be his. I'm afraid it is your cost. That is just the way it is when parents-to-be aren't married.

I also think he is very angry and probably thinks you lied to him that you couldn't get pregnant. That's why I tell guys that unless she has no uterus, she can get pregnant, so use condoms. You are just as culpable so don't go blaming all on him.

If you need prenatal meds, go to Walgreens and buy some. 100 tabs is $10. You don't need the prescription ones unless you have specific health problems and at your age, that is unlikely.
Reply:I know its hard and I know how you feel. Believe me you really don't want to know what my views are on this. I have a 2yr old son wityh my ex husband I am now 24yrs old and am 16 weeks pregnant with my ex bf's kid! Yes I said EX, he pressed for me to get an abortion but when I wouldn't he left and wants nothing to do with me or the kid! He is 32, I guess they never grow up sometimes. Ya Know? Oh yeah by the way he has a 5 year old son with his ex that he does everything for and I got preggo on the BC pill!
Reply:The man is a low-life. Take him to court to get your child support (search for a law firm that will do pro bono work or a firm that specializes in social services). He may be legally required to pay until the child is 18. Good luck to you.
Reply:You needc to screw this guy and get a man that will help you and your baby lead a productive life
Reply:wow thats messed up i would bring him to court and make him pay child support that or he will be running from the cops!!!!!! cause if you dont pay your child support then they take away your lisence!!!! Kick his A**
Reply:He is a scumsucking bastard
Reply:I really don't think you're all that responsible either. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and get your act together. They aren't going to help, so get over it. Suck it up and move on.
Reply:He's an idiot. When you have your ultrasound (if your not still together) send him a copy of the picture and the DVD, then make him come crawling back, not that you would "want" him back. Otherwise, just get over the dirtbag and love your baby. Don't dwell too much on him or that would psychologically hurt your baby, even though she/he has not been born yet.
Reply:I actually went through the same thing, you can file for child support before the child is born, it's best to start the process now and when the child is born the court will petition a paternity test to prove he is the father. Also apply for help with the social services office for medicaid, because whatever the dr's bill is, the state will make him pay them back after they take care of your medical bill.
Reply:My daughter is 18 years old and going thru the same thing. Her ex-fiancee stayed around for about a week after he found out and when his parents told him they wanted nothing to do with it he dumped her. He will also be 22 years old. Guys like this arent worth having around. You can take care of this child yourself and hopefully with the help of your family. My daughter had to get on medicaid for medical insurance. As far as support goes ,where we live in indiana, the county prosecuters office can help establish paternity and court order support.(usually after the baby is born with dna testing)
Reply:that happend to me after a 2 years relationship... He left me, and didn't gave me a penny in my entire pregnancy, my parents help me a lot and my friends... I'm living with my parents, I have the health plan of the goverment, and my baby is 10 months and 1/2 and he has only giving me $120, I only wanted him in my daughters life and didn't wanted his money, but he did even asked for her, only have seen her twice and always say he is going to give me money but he never do it.. I put him on a childsupport case, a month ago and I feel better becuase my baby really needs the money, I'm not working. And it hurts to see pictures of him, my friends tell me they see him partying and me in my house taking care of the baby..... So believe there are a lot of words you can say that will describe that situation... but I haven't found one that will have alll the meanings and thoughts that I have about him.... Good Luck, take care of you and that baby!!!

I would like your opinion about returning to College now or later.?

I am asking this question because I am debating going back to school right now. I currently have 73 credits but only 64 that transferred to my new school. I have been on a break for the past year mostly because I stopped being able to afford school. I am debating on whether to go back now or pay off some of my $50,000 + in loans and then go back. I am working on a finance degree and currently have a full-time job in accounting. My job is okay for now. I am 21 and I am making $33K a year which is about $23K after taxes. I started taking classes online but my motivation is just not there. It seems like for the past year, everytime I try to pick up a book, I start worrying about adding to my school debt and trying to keep my personal debt under control. I plan on finishing but I am not sure now is the right time. What are your opinions? Thank you.

I would like your opinion about returning to College now or later.?
No matter if you go back no or go back later you are going to be paying for school. However, school prices do go up every year so you should consider that too. I disagree with the person saying if you wait, you won't return. I waited 7 years and went back...I graduate in October...but I did classes online and loved it. If you are having doubts then I say hold off until you know for sure this is what you want to do.
Reply:git er done
Reply:I didn't take loans out for my first two years of school and all my friends did. While I was working my way through school, my friends were in school full-time. At about 24 years old I was making 33k per year and my freinds about 45-50k, so I thought it kinda evened itself out because I didn't have 40k in student loans. At 27 all my friend are making 70k+ and I still make the same amount of money and am still working on my degree because I could only afford two classes per semester (and some semester none). So, this semester I am taking a full course load and took out a 20k loan.

Moral of the story, finish school first, even if you need to take out loans. You will work at higher pay when you get out, so it doesn't all just work out the same. I was very wrong and paying for it now. Work part-time for some extra cash and pay for books or one of your classes here and than yourself it you can. That will lower the amount of your student loans.

Your loans should be in forbarance while your in school. See your aid office if they arn't. Most student loans don't need to be paid until 6 months after graduation, so you have time to find employment. Some are even intrest free until your forbarence period is up.
Reply:I say finish school. check your mailbox
Reply:Debt is so stessful.. but you have to keep in mind that when you have your degree hopefully you will be making more moolah... just make sure if you take a longer break you don't completely demotivate to finish... cause your so close!!!
Reply:Go to school! If you go to school you will get a better job probly,be smart, and get better money with the better job.
Reply:I think you need to look at what the pros and cons are for getting the degree. Would it mean more money for you in the future? Is this the career path you truly want? Does the company you work for offer some kind of continuing education reimbursement? How long would it take to finish getting the degree? Are there any night classes you could take or online courses so you can continue working? Is there any financial aid available to you either through the government or private organizations?

I personally think that the sooner you return to college the more likely you will be to finish your degree. The longer you put it off, the less likely you will be. Life has a way of getting in the way...romance, family relations etc... may crop up that give you further excuses of why the timing is not right.

I wish you the best of luck!
Reply:Go back now and finish. If you wait any longer you will more than likely be even less motivated. What is the point of going for as long as you did and spending all that money if you aren't going to finish? Just go back, get it done and over with then you can get a much better paying job, be able to pay back that debt a lot faster and be much more satisfied with the outcome.
Reply:you should go back now. most of the time when people wait to go back to school they dont end up going back. go and finish your degree and before long you will be making at least 2x your current salary. there are so many possibilities once you have a college degree. go back and have fun, then worry about money.
Reply:Ok. Go back to school and stop worrying about personal debt. An education is best kind of investment. If you don't finish your degree you will probably be making the same amount (maybe 2-3K more) in ten years and you will severly limit your promotion potential.

Student loan debt is the best debt to have. As long as you keep your loans current once they go into repayment (6 months after graduation) you are going to be fine. Keeping them current is easy. Most lenders are fairly flexible with your payment options and you can request a forebearance (if they are federal loans) if you are not prepared to pay them back. Bear in mind that while in forebearance, interest will accrue and you will ultimately be responsible for paying it back. Now is the right time to go back. You are well ahead of the game with that many credits transferring and if you don't complete it, it will all be in vain and you will also have the 50k debt with nothing to show for it. Stay away from Online Universities. You will never have the motivation to study for this type of arrangement. Its too easy to be distracted. Go to a traditional school and manage any other debt you have--credit cards, car loans, etc. This is what you should be worried about. Student loans are fine.

Personal note: I had 67K in loans once I finished my Masters degree. I now make 85K and am slowly chipping away at the debt. Its really no big deal.
Reply:I would think about two things first the longer you stay away from that school enviroment the harder it will be for you to go back. Secondly, once you complete school although you are going to be paying back some debts, are you going to make more money with your degree? If you happy with what you are accomplishing now, by all means continue the path that you feel is right for you. No one is able to make that choice for you,. It is too big of a big deal to let someone else handle....
Reply:If your not motivated it is a waste of time. I say pay of some of your bills before the interest gets worse.

You probably are less motivated because you know how much more college classes are going to put you in debt. Once you are able to get rid of a big chunk of the debt you will be more motivated.
Reply:first you can do is pay off your debt first, because the interest could be more bigger and make more bigger your total amount. and then, after the total amount of your loan is reasonable with your financial budget. you can arrange to come back to your school.
