I am going back to school and am trying to decide what to choose. If any of these occupations are yours please tell me if you like it,what you do at your job ,if the pay is good and how long did it take to get your degree.Thank You.
Dental Hygientist
Medical Asst
LPN
Medical Lab Tech
Physical therapy Asst
Radiology
If you work in the Health care field I need your expert opinion?
I would suggest PTA. It's fun and rewarding working with the patients and seeing their daily progress!
Radiology would be good money, too, but not as "hand's on" the patient.
Med assistant will get you a job easily... you also have to do admin duties such as: filing, billing, phones... which alot of people don't like to do.
Good luck in whatever you do!
Reply:Dental Hygienists make great money for the level of education needed - some programs are 2-3 years, some are 4 year. They can make anywhere from $30/hr - 45/hr and from my experience are in high demand and the work is not stressful.
Reply:Out of all of those you'll make the best money as a LPN, but you should go for RN and you could make up to $78 per hour depending on the field and location that you choose as a RN.
Reply:Most of the positions you mention (except LPN and Radiology) can be done at a Vocational School in about 6-9 months. Or, you can go to a Community College and complete them in 1-2 academic years, depending on how many classes you take at a time. The advantage of Voc Schools is that they're fast, the disadvantages are cost (very expensive) and they can't always place you in positions, even though they mostly say they can. Not only that, you DON'T earn college credits for your work, so if you ever decide to go the CC route or a 4-year school, you'll need to repeat ALL of what you did in the Voc School. Plus, the "admission reps" at a Voc School are commissioned salespeople. The more students they enroll, the more money they make! You'll be promised the world, but very little to no truth to it.
The advantage of CC is that you do earn college credits and perhaps a DEGREE, the cost is low and your work is/would be recognized anywhere you apply. The disadvantage can be the time it takes you to complete, although many do have accelerated programs. The pay depends on where you live and will work. Larger cities/doctors groups/hospitals typically pay more than clinics and private doctor's offices.
Reply:I would say physical therapy asst . My brother does that and yeah he makes some outstanding money and he works alot though cause he is assigned to a hospital and he has to work weekend s which sucks to him but he loves it and he worked alot to acheive it . so go for it .
Reply:dont do med. asst!! i was going to be a nurse and went into this field when i was 17. i worked it 2 years and had decided in the first year that i not only did not like my job but i didnt want to be a nurse! i loved helping the people but the pay sucked! (of course this is in Mo so it may be different where you are) i would go with radiology physical therapy or lab tech i know they pay better....and that makes the school costs worth it
