Should I be worried and get a second opinion?

I had an abnormal pap smear reading and the doctor performed a biopsy two weeks later. I just got the results back and the doctor said they are normal, contradicting the pap results, but to be on the safe side we will go ahead and freeze your cervix anyhow. If nothing is wrong, why should I go through another procedure? These procedures are not cheap..but if life threatning I will pay.

Should I be worried and get a second opinion?
do you know the exact reading on your pap? if would all depend on that. there are a lot of new recommendations on paps these days. your doctor may or may not be up to date. many doctors do not keep up with new recommendations. i could help you more if i had the exact pap reading, your hpv results. i will assume biopsy is normal as you have stated. no one here will be able to answer your question, i cant do it with this info and i am a gyn who does many colposcopies for abnormal paps. pap options are: atypical cells of undetermined significance, low grade (or high grade) intraepithelial neoplasia, atypical glandular cells, or cervical cancer. if you can get that and the hpv results (positive or negative) email me and i will help you. it is also important if you have ever had abnormal pap previously and if you have any disease like lupus or hiv. you are right to feel this way, you may not need the cryotherapy.
Reply:that's odd, I had an abnormality with a biopsy and they just want to see me again in six months to do another pap smear. That seems weird that they would do a procedure with a negative biopsy. Abnormal paps happen all the time, most of the time the abnormal cells will go away, it you are healthy, but very rarely will they turn cancerous.
Reply:do it. just to be safe!
Reply:Unless the Pap was class IV or V, I think he is being too conservative. Obviously you do not have invasive cancer and a Pap could be repeated in six months. Ca in situ takes longer than that to become invasive even if you had it.
