What is your opinion on holiday celebration/decorations on public ground?

what is your opinion on holiday celebration/decorations on public grounds that we pay tax on? is it a violation of 1st ammendment rights (which is separation of church and state)?

Honestly i don't think people care. There worse things than people just puting up decorations for the winter holidays. It depends on your view of of these festivities.
Reply:It doesn't bother me. I like decorations. The love is there. I'm not religious.
Reply:First amendment right isn't "separation of church and state." I think that "holiday" decorations are festive and fun. They are never put out maliciously to make people mad, they are always displayed in season cheer. Even if "separation of church and state" was the first amendment right, what do "holiday decorations" have to do with church? I thought "Holiday" was the PC term to include everyone in the Christmas season?
Reply:I like them.... why do people have to ****** about every little thing? GOOD GRIEF
Reply:there are plenty of private grounds for hanging religious displays, often right next to the public ones!

the 1st amendment prevents "establishing" a state religion - courts have held that means the state may not act to favor one over another, and that is interpreted generally as "hands off" all religions because it is not possible to include everyone in every circumstances, and uneven treatment is forbidden.

so, no public moneys can be spent to pay for holiday displays that are religious in nature.

not all countries are so enlightened, so if seeing governments promote religious holidays is important to you, there are many places you can go to see what you want, regardless of which faith you prefer. these places are generally homogeneous societies (=everyone is the same).

In the US, though, no, not allowed and not a good idea in our heterogeneous society (everyone is different and compromises to get along for the greater good).
Reply:i think it should be done and forget all the religon and stuff
Reply:The more the merrier.
