Should professional athletes and race car drivers get paid more than military?

I say NO. I'm curious about everyone's opinion.

Should professional athletes and race car drivers get paid more than military?
Celebrities aren't paid by the government. They are paid by private companies that base thier wages on, as it has been stated, supply and demand, so the comparison is kind of apples to oranges.

I mean, as an Army NCO I'd love to make more money, but, realistically, that money has to come from somewhere and there are ALOT of members of the military. There would be a trade-off and, guaranteed, noone would like the options. They could either raise taxes outrageously, which I don't think anyone would like...or start cutting jobs from the military and raising the hiring criteria for the job slots they do keep. Personally, I'd rather keep my $2K a month than risk getting layed off and getting nothing so some other guy in the same job as me can make $4K a month instead....or they go back to a pseudo-feudalistic system where all the militaries in the country are privitized, and I think we can all see problems with that.
Reply:No, but they do.

The average salary for a ROOKIE is still more than the the huge majority of people (not only teachers, policemen, firemen, but most lawyers and doctors) earn in a year.

Major League Baseball player Dustin Pedroia, in 2007 made $380,000. That is not even counting bonus money that he may have gotten as Rookie of The Year and money that Red Sox team members split for winning the World Series.
Reply:the military may have high standards, but they recruit millions of people.....

very few people can become star athletes or entertainers

ergo, the athletes and entertainers will make much more money.

that may not be fair, but that is the way it is and it ain't going to change......
Reply:It is supply and demand. IF people were willing to pay $40 a ticket to watch a tank range or infantry drills and buy $7 hot dogs I could see soldiers getting millions. Since they will not it will be up to the athletes to reap the reward of TV endorsements, overpriced tickets and food.
Reply:Definitely not. What the hell do they do besides provide entertainment for us? They're not risking their lives for this country.

Military personnel, police officers, firefighters, they should all make more than "celebrities".
Reply:of course not. We should immediately start paying everryone in the military twice what they make now. Oh, and you aren't going to whine when we raise taxes to do it right?
Reply:now thats a real hero..thats what americans admire..military is so desparate now they take felons and high schoo; drop outs...dont let anyone tell you different...military is real good at brainwashing and now torture seems to be in...
Reply:How much is your country worth to you? Guess by my paycheck, not much!
Reply:I was just thinking this yesterday! I say NO. What they are doing is entertainment!
