Why do baseball players get paid more than our teachers?

I think it is appalling and even a little offensive. What is your opinion?

Why do baseball players get paid more than our teachers?
I think it shows that our priorities are not in education. It's too bad.

What are you going to do to change it?
Reply:Okay, when was the last time you admired a teacher? You probably -- as do I, as do most people -- have a celebrity you admire. It's a movie star, rock star, politician -- someone. And they all get paid more the teachers. Salaries were comparably higher back in the 50s and 60s, but the teachers also had respect. When that was lost, the talented potential teachers went into more viable careers, leaving less talented people to teach. It's a shame, yes, but the republicans cut education money and so teachers have become largely babysitters. Hence, ballplayers and others have the money.
Reply:Professional Baseball players are a part of a business. They make the owners far more money than they are paid.

I believe teaching is a gift and a calling. The teachers are there because they want to make the world a better place.
Reply:Although teachers may be more important to society, and the improvement of youth, they are not as "valuable" moneywise. Thousands of students graduate every year with teaching degrees, while only a handful are skilled enough to play professional sports. There are no other Tom Brady's, A-Rods, or Kobe Bryant's, that's why they make so much money. You can't find someone else to do there job, because no one else is that good. If you're not replaceable, you make more money for your service. Not saying I agree with it, that's just the logic behind it.
Reply:Baseball players offer entertainment, most teachers offer nihilism in one form or another, environmentalism, multiculturalism, etc.

If teachers taught humans how to positively function on this planet and enjoy life, it might be another story. Until then, PLAY BALL!
Reply:If you took the salaries of all the baseball players and compared them to the salaries of all teachers, might not be so lopsided.

Famous athletes give up their privacy for the big money that comes with the fame. They need the money to protect their lives from the prying masses. There is a dark side to fame. This is the reason I think all celebrities deserve those large pay checks. I pity the ones who do not get the money with the fame.
Reply:because do u actuallt think us stupid kids want to learn... all we care about is stuff that rotts our brains... lol
Reply:Because we live in a society that values entertainment more than knowledge and wisdom.
Reply:Because they train constantly and stay to a strict diet. It's not easy..
Reply:never thought of that. interesting.

i find it appalling and yes, a little offensive indeed.
Reply:that's all sports.

it's a conspiracy to keep the rich rich and the poor poor...MENTALLY that is...
