I provided a service for my client which he has never paid for.Can I use his service without paying him?

I produced TV ad and run it for 3 months on my TV channel. Client - hair salon never paid me, couldn't get in touch with him, sent letters etc. nothing happened. He owes me $850 plus my time. So I went to his salon to get a haircut without paying. I wanted to offer them a trade for the owed money. They contacted the owner's wife who told them to call the cops on me if I don't pay $230 for their service. I wasn't sure about my rights, so I let them charge my credit card. I am thinking about disputing the charge. I am very angry about this. In my opinion if I wasn't paid for my service I shouldn't pay for his. Any advice? Thank you.

They have the right to collect on the haircut. You have the right to take them to small claims court to get your $850. They are two separate issues.
Reply:Go to court for justice. Before trying to pay back with the same coin one needs to think if this coin is lawful or agreeable for the partner.
Reply:Reads a little petty to me .I would talk with a lawyer or let it all ride, and watch my services to whom I provide them to next time.Let this guy go his own way, and you go your way. This may cause your business to fail. You may be allowed by law to claim it as a loss on your income tax. Best Wishes!

Reply:No you can't. Each service is viewed independently. If you'd like to collect, call your local small claims court. It's very simple, and turns into a head-ache for the party who owes you money.

onlly solution is, if you can talk to them and agree on an offset agreement, they can issue you a certificate amounting to the amount of money they owe you.

if this is not possible, take it to court. whatever small claims court you have.
