Me and one of my close friends want to get an apartment. We found an absolute gorgeous one (brand new) for 765...which comes out to be 382.50 per person. I have lived on my own for the past year when i was away at college....Well now I am back in my hometown and finishing up college here. Do you think it is stupid to move into an apartment and pay rent and all of that when you could live at home for free? I just dont want to live at home anymore. I want to be independant!! Any advice?
What is your opinion about this living arrangement?
Sometimes you just have to get out on your own; but I would think about discussing with my friend what would happen, if for some reason, someone were to get ill or any number of things, and could not pay their part of the rent. Even though you wouldn't think of it happening, it does, best friends included. I moved out to live with my brother and his wife...they got divorced a few months later, my other brother moved in, he went bankrupt, then my other brother went bankrupt, and I also lost my job...each of us took turns being financially ruined. It caused a LOT of tension between us. It was crazy, it seemed like they couldn't remember when they went through the same thing, just a couple months prior. Definitely make sure you look over the contract REALLY well and find out what would happen if you have to break the lease or if one person leaves, if you would be permitted to sublease. If you can come to a good agreement and feel safe that things will go smoothly; I think it sounds like it would be really fun. Just make sure you remember to give each other their space. Good luck!
Reply:It is not a financially sound decision. It would be better to live at home and save what you can. Then purchase a house that is a two or four unit. You will collect the rent and your tenants will pay the mortgage for you. I would use credit cards now to establish good credit. Just be sure to pay off the balance each month. Even if you only use $100 to $200 each month, it will look good later when you apply for a mortgage.
Bite the bullet and live at home a while and be glad that you can. The sooner you buy a house that generates income, the sooner you will be rich.
Reply:What I found strange is you are supposedly college educated and your grammar is terriable
Reply:no. i think it's good for you to take steps to be independent. it will teach you responsibility. GOOD LUCK!
Reply:Being able to live at home with your parents is a great opportunity to save up money - to travel or for big purchases - or saving towards the deposit on a house . But are you the kind of person that will do that ? my brother said thats what he was going to do but while he was at home he just spent all his extra money on silly stuff he didn't need ! And didn't end up saving any .
Plus if you got used to be away from home it may be harder than you imagine to go back ! you are going to have start living independently sooner or later -so its just a matter of when. will you regret this savings opportunity ?
Reply:well you will spend money on renting it, sounds like a waste if you have to use the loan to pay it off. id try to find a cheaper one. but it just depends how bad you want to be away from home and what its worth to you.
Reply:Go for it.
