Do we really need movie critics or do they get paid to ramble on about their opinion that no one cares about?

Ninety nine percent of the time, a critics review has absolutely no influence on the amount of people that see a movie. The popular opinion is almost always higher than thier opinion. The movies that they think are a waste of time, seem to do much better than they ever anticipated. So if they are unable to relate with the general public and can not correctly forcast how well a movie is going to do, then why are they still employed?

Do we really need movie critics or do they get paid to ramble on about their opinion that no one cares about?
Of course not. But then again, do husbands like me need to be constantly reminded by our wives about what Oprah says?

Reply:I usually go by the movie preview or the reviews of someone I know.





Movies critics are overpaid and the positions should be put to rest.

Reply:A critic is usually more intelligent than the rest of us, and watches movies with a more analytical view. In other words, they take movies seriously, whereas most people dont think that deeply about the movie.





That being said, there are tons of people who listen to critics. I do, depending on the critic - usually, the more established papers - like the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, etc.. have the more intelligent critics. Usually, these critics are looking for "literary merit". If you dont know what I mean, then dont worry about it - just go on watching movies that you like.

It IS a wonder that they have jobs !


I have a mind, and so am my own critic.


If I see an ad re: any movie that peeks my interest, I'll go see it.


If not, I won't.


I AM sometimes disappointed, but to no help of a movie critic.


They have THEIR opinion of "what is good", and so do I.
Reply:Tell you the truth, I don't know why we have critics. I think a lot of them are mean, and if you read a review it goes either one of two ways: either you feel really stupid about seeing the movie or you feel bad you didn't like the movie the way they did. Critics are there I believe to make an assement and nothing else. But a lot like to shove their opinions down everyone's throats. Opinion's are just what someone else thinks, why do we need to hear it, we have minds of our own. If critics weren't around, I think it would actually be okay. Life would go on.
