There is no doubt that I want as much money as I can but my boss has been really nice and respectful.
They pay and respect me more than I deserve in my opinion. I know I am getting paid more than I am worth currently especially since the economy has been slow. In the past few months, I know for a fact that we haven't been breaking even.
My question is, should I ask my boss to lower my pay?
I am currently a store manager getting paid more than I should but economy is very slow at the moment.?
In my opinion, it would be a superb move on your part.
Chances are that your boss, confronted with this oppurtunity, would do two things - one, reduce your pay SLIGHTLY, in view of the fact that you were so understanding in actually asking for it. He'd respect you for that, and make it a reasonable decrease. Or, possibly, he may just be shocked and refuse to decrease it - a slim chance in my opinion, but a possibility.
Either way, if you're doing a good job and as the economy improves, business takes off, I'd expect to be on the end of a sizable pay increase from an employer who sees both your skill as an employee, your loyalty to take a pay cut, and your maturity in realising the business's situation.
Good luck!
Reply:I commend you on your integrity, but might I ask,do you think your boss is considering the same idea?
I'm sure he is earning more than you,so let the charity start at the top.
The world of business is very competitive,so one should be very careful, before they think of giving back.
I would think more on this subject, before acting.
Reply:You're such a nice and understanding employee. I know others wouldn't even THINK of going to their boss and asking them to lower the pay. They'll say "Eff it! I need this money"--
Go to your boss and ask him in confidentiality that you realize that Biz has been slow lately and if he feels the need to lower your pay; if he says no, then don't push and leave well enough alone.
If he says yes, make it a reasonable reduction: you need to pay bills too, ya' know!
**Good Luck**
Reply:No. What you need to do is save as much money as you can in the event that the economy slows more and you are laid off. It won't help you keep a job if you take less pay. If business goes down too far, they will need to let you go anyway.
