am thinking of buying a Kitchenaid mixer, but when I started to read customer reviews on Amazon, there were a few "horror stories" that made me nervous. I don't want to pay $300+ for a mixer that's going to be faulty.
Has anyone recently purchased a Kitchenaid mixer? What is your opinion? Which model did you get?
What is your opinion of KitchenAid mixers?
Okay I have used 2 different kitchenAides.
The first one was a gift to my mother and I from my grandmother. After using only hand mixers through out my life, I fell in love with my kitchenAid. I have sice used hand mixers and other stand mixers, so NOT worth it. I love that kitchAid.
Then I have a hand me down kithenAid from the mother in law it doesn't have as big of a motor I don't think but I still just love it. I was so glad to have a kitchenAid again.
The only complaint that I have is they are heavy and hard to move around, but at the same time that is why it works so well is becuase of the heavy base.
Sorry I can't remember to model numbers, but they both are the ones that lift up, and the bowls twist to "lock and unluck" into position.
As far as the the complaints that the one lady had here is what I have to say.
There is a screw on the top of the mix that will lower or raise the mixer attacthement.
I like the stationary bowl becuase I can leave the mixer going without having to hold the bowl and having it spinning all around.
Both my mixers have been around for at least 10 years and are used frequently.
Reply:I don't like the kitchenaid for several reasons
-heavy, heavy, heavy
-stationary mixing bowls ( by that I mean they don't spin)
-the bowls have high sides, so if you want to scrape it down you have to stop the mixer and pull up the paddles
-The bowls are so tall, the bottom doesn't get mixed in.
-the bowls don't allow you to mix and add large amounts of ingrediants at the same time. They come with side gaurds that fall apart and don't stay on.
I recently bought a sunbeam. It looks like an old fashioned stand mixer, but it doesn't have any of those problems and I love it.
Reply:I have had my K-A for over 35 yrs, I could not live without it, besides the dishwasher it is my best friend in the kitchen.
I never heard of horror stories. I did buy a blue one to match my kitchen about 8 yrs ago, but it died, so I went back to using the almond color one that has been with me low these
many years. I just made 110 cookies this morning and I always thank my K-A for aiding me.
I also love the versatility that I have with the attachments.
I create the most wonderful pie dough and applesauce and on and on and on.
Reply:I can't imagine any horror stories either! My mom and I have only had KitchenAid mixers, they are the Absolute BEST!!! I can't imagine baking without it!!!!
Kitchen Aid mixers are used by the pros, turn on Food Network, it's all they use, and it's all I ever see anyone use, they are awesome and they stand by their products, if there's ever anything wrong, they WILL help you! I LOVE mine and would NOT bake without it! I was even considering a second one!
I have the big 6qt. I had the smaller one, but I was always baking for my niece's class and her parties at school, so my sister got me the bigger one because it would take me more than one batch, with this big one, I can fit SO much in there and do SO much! I LOVE it and I get things done SO fast in it! I did go out and get another bowl so I didn't have to buy a second one so now when I need to do two things at the same time, I have the 2 bowls and don't have to worry. I LOVE my KitchenAid.
I gave my best friend my old one and she LOVES it and wouldn't be without it and I know everyone that I know feels the same way about theirs. I also have the KitchenAid hand mixer, the food processors, etc and you can't go wrong with any of their products. They have been around forever, they are highly rated, and they stand by their product.
The ONLY product I did have a problem with was their coffee maker and they wrote to me and TOLD ME about it and offered me ANY product I wanted for the same amount and it was YEARS LATER!!! That's customer service!!! You don't find that these days and that's the kind of service you get from KitchenAid and I would not give up my mixer for another brand, there is NO brand that stands up to them!!!
Reply:I've had mine for 14 years, I use it at least once a week and I've never had a problem with it. It's worth the money and I can't imagine buying anything else.
I have the model with the bowl that moves up and down versus the head moving, but my grandma had the one with the moving head and it was great too.
Reply:My fiance got one and it lasted over 5 years so far and still working strong, it looks like one to those $300+ ones with the bowl that rises and lowers instead of the head. My fiance is also a pastry cheif so she is always using it. so yeah the critics are just the people who are to picky about small stuff, pluse if it messes up in a few weeks you can always return it to get another one.
Reply:I don't own this mixer...but I haven't met one person who owns a Kitchen Aid stand mixer that doesn't like it.
I don't have one because I don't bake enough to justify one more appliance on my counter. This isn't something you want to be dragging in and out of the cupboard. It's heavy.
I have top of the line Kitchen Aid hand mixer and a food processor. I've yet to run into anything that I can't handle between these two appliances from delicate egg whites to tough cookie dough. I also have a bread machine.
Reply:I've had mine since 1997 and it's still going strong. No problems here. I rarely use it for mixing anymore. I use the grater/shredder attachment to shred my own cheese and veggies, I have the pasta attachment for fresh pasta, I even splurged on the sausage stuffer and have made several batches of sausage. It's so versatile, if it broke today I'd have one ordered immediately and rushed here.
Reply:That is on top of my wish list of items I want for my kitchen. My Oster Kitchen Center is on its last legs, have had it repaired twice in about 30 years now. They no longer make these.
KitchenAid mixers are well worth the money even if you go to a regular store to buy them. I am not sure I would buy a used one tho!
KitchenAid is a premiere name in home appliances and gives very little problem.
Reply:I got a wonderful Oster mixer set up at the thrift shop, it had NEVER been used. Had the recipe book, receipts, etc. with it.. Am still trying to locate the juicer part for it but I have everything that comes with it for $24.50!! big box of everything in mint condiction and it works great....
check out a thrift shop, many of them. The one that I got the mixer at was the Humane Society, also picked up a great sewing machine there for $10.00..
check it out first before spending a lot of money, it hurts less wasting $10 than throwing $300 out the door...
good luck!!
Reply:Kitchenaid mixers are pretty good, but not any better than one you can go and buy at walmart. I suggest you save your money and go and buy a mixer at walmart for 1/3 the price you will pay for a kitchenaid.
Reply:I see them being used on many TV programs..
I agree $320+ is too much..remember you do not get ALL the attachments..
I went to the thrift store and got a sunbeam Mixmaster stand mixer for $25.00 with-out the added attachments..
It must be 10 years now and I have never used it
too much work to clean...
A simple hand mixer will preform any duty just as well...$10 - 12 dollars..
Reply:I have had a Kitchen Aid Classic for a few years and love it. It is worth the investment! My only regret is that I didn't get a larger capacity mixer.
Reply:Wow, horror stories with Kitchen Aid mixer. I've had mine since 1985, the strandard stand up one and it has never ever given me a bit of trouble and it's still going strong.
Reply:I can't imagine a horror story. they are wonderful. I actually got mine for about $180.00, and it is great. they last a lifetime or two.
Reply:They are WONDERFULL, my sister has 1 not sure the model but its awsm 2 have
Reply:I agree with Dee Dee I have had one for years and I only paid 150.00 for it... I love mine.. Forgot to say I have the classic as well...
