What is your opinion on illegal immigration?

I personally believe that illegal immigrants are ILLEGAL. I understand why people want to immigrate here, but what i don't understand is why they can't go through the process. i believe that it means something to be an American citizen, and letting people just come in takes away from that. My grandparents went through the process and they are very proud of that. I also think that illegal aliens should be forced to apply for citizenship. It's also not fair to not have to pay taxes, or just to evade what people normally go through by doing it the right way. I am wondering what other people think. Please give me your opinion

What is your opinion on illegal immigration?
It is illegal and therefore should hold a punishment. It is wrong that the punishment is not being enforced. If I wanted food from the store because I was really hungry, would it be right for me to steal that food? It is wrong that millions of citizens lose (a lot of) their hard-earned money to taxes when there are others who do not pay them but receive the same benefits.

To the person above me: Oh, okay well if the process is too longggg (whine) then let's all just start breaking the rules. What you just said is ignorant and an insult to those immigrants who have gone through that longgggggggg process to be here legally. Please.
Reply:Illegal immigrants are breaking the law so they are criminals! I am livid watching the coverage of these criminals, waving their Mexican flags, DEMANDING that they be given citizenship. They have no rights! I AM SOOOOOOOOO ANGRY!
Reply:It’s an outrage to have foreign nationals protest on American soil demanding privileges and rights not earned and attempting to advance their anti-American agenda. Bush, the congress and the entire federal government has been complacent, failed to protect our borders and failed to enforce the immigration laws of this country. They should be held accountable for their deeds and voted out of office.
Reply:Unfortunately most people on here are anti illegal, because most people on here are ignorant about immigration laws. I am not throwing an insult at you or anything, but "doing it the legal way" is not as easy as it sounds. If it was easy, everybody would do it. First of all these people are in desperate situations where they don't have money, and time is running out before they die of starvation. The legal process is not only expensive and looooonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg, but it is also very likely that they will deny you. You don't just go to the American embassy and ask for citizenship.
Reply:I think all illegals should go home no matter where they came from and take the racist americans with them
Reply:It is illegal and they are criminals.
Reply:My take on illegal immigration: In this nation we have a process for everything -- getting a driver's license, applying for Welfare, running for public office We have a process for immigration as well. Everybody should be expected to follow this process. Now, the process can be, and should absolutely, be made better but everyone should be expected to follow the process. Providing amnesty for all illegal immigrants basically sends the wrong message that the process is optional and not necessary to immigrate to the United States.

However, rounding up every single one and deporting them doesn't make much sense either. If they commit a crime, kick them out. However, if they are working, even if under the table and below minimum wage, and not causing any trouble, let them stay. Help them apply for green cards and citizenship. If they show no interest in doing that, tell them, sorry, but you have to leave. The ultimate goal of INS should be to allow anyone who wants to live in the United States long term become a citizen.

The fact that the border on both sides is still porous shows that we've gone about the War on Terror in the wrong way. Why is the TSA strip searching everyone who wants to fly while would-be terrorists can cross over from Mexico or Canada untouched by INS? If we were *really* serious about protecting this country from terrorists we'd be very restrictive on the non-citizens we let in, not treating citizens like criminals.
Reply:Staring a new life in a new country by breaking the law is NOT the way to start life anew!
Reply:We just want the same rights!!!
Reply:I am against it. They all need to be deported immediately.

;) Lucky
Reply:Its illegal and therefore a non issue....jail and deportation
